 AN ACT to amend the criminal procedure law,  in  relation  to  corporate
   defendants
 
   THE  PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM-
 BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:

   Section 1. Section 600.20 of the criminal procedure law is amended  to
 read as follows:
 § 600.20  Corporate defendants; prosecution thereof.
   At  all  stages  of  a  criminal action, from the commencement thereof
 through sentence, a corporate defendant must appear by  counsel.    Upon
 failure  of appearance at the time such defendant is required to enter a
 plea to the accusatory instrument, the court may enter a plea of  guilty
 and  impose  sentence.    UPON FINDING A CORPORATE DEFENDANT LIABLE, THE
 DISTRICT ATTORNEY MAY SIMULTANEOUSLY FILE A CIVIL JUDGMENT AGAINST  SUCH
 CORPORATE DEFENDANT.
   § 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
