 AN ACT to amend the civil service law, in relation to making the Iranian
   Hostage Crisis "time of war" for civil service credit
 
   THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND  ASSEM-
 BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:
 
   Section  1.  Paragraph (c) of subdivision 1 of section 85 of the civil
 service law is amended by adding two new subparagraphs 9 and 10 to  read
 as follows:
   (9)  HOSTILITIES  PARTICIPATED  IN  BY  MILITARY  FORCES OF THE UNITED
 STATES,  KNOWN  AS  THE  IRANIAN   HOSTAGE   CRISIS,   IN   THE   INDIAN
 OCEAN/IRAN/YEMEN,  FROM  THE  EIGHTH  DAY  OF DECEMBER, NINETEEN HUNDRED
 SEVENTY-EIGHT TO THE SIXTH DAY OF JUNE, NINETEEN  HUNDRED  SEVENTY-NINE,
 AS  ESTABLISHED  BY RECEIPT OF THE ARMED FORCES EXPEDITIONARY MEDAL, THE
 NAVY EXPEDITIONARY MEDAL, OR THE MARINE CORPS EXPEDITIONARY MEDAL.
   (10) HOSTILITIES PARTICIPATED IN BY  MILITARY  FORCES  OF  THE  UNITED
 STATES  IN THE INDIAN OCEAN/IRAN, FROM THE TWENTY-FIRST DAY OF NOVEMBER,
 NINETEEN HUNDRED SEVENTY-NINE TO THE TWENTIETH DAY OF OCTOBER,  NINETEEN
 HUNDRED EIGHTY-ONE, AS ESTABLISHED BY RECEIPT OF THE ARMED FORCES EXPED-
 ITIONARY MEDAL, THE NAVY EXPEDITIONARY MEDAL, OR THE MARINE CORPS EXPED-
 ITIONARY MEDAL.
   § 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
