 AN ACT authorizing the temporary president of the senate and the speaker
   of the assembly to commission an independent management study  of  the
   organization  of  the board of regents and the state education depart-
   ment

   THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND  ASSEM-
 BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:
 
   Section  1.  The  temporary president of the senate and the speaker of
 the assembly shall commission an independent  management  study  of  the
 organization of the board of regents and the state education department.
 Such  study  shall include recommendations on reorganization and stream-
 lining the department of education and on the scope of  responsibilities
 of  the board of regents, and shall be presented to the temporary presi-
 dent of the senate and the speaker of the assembly no later than July 1,
 2018.
   § 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
