S T A T E O F N E W Y O R K ________________________________________________________________________ 7650 2017-2018 Regular Sessions I N A S S E M B L Y May 5, 2017 ___________ Introduced by M. of A. CARROLL -- read once and referred to the Commit- tee on Governmental Operations AN ACT to establish a commission to study the battle of Brooklyn; and providing for the repeal of such provisions upon the expiration there- of THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. A commission, to be known as the battle of Brooklyn commis- sion, is hereby created to study the battle of Brooklyn, including meth- ods to promote and educate individuals on the historical importance of the battle of Brooklyn. § 2. The commission shall be composed of eleven members, appointed as follows: three members shall be appointed by the governor; four members shall be appointed by the speaker of the assembly; one member shall be appointed by the minority leader of the assembly; two members shall be appointed by the temporary president of the senate; and one member shall be appointed by the minority leader of the senate. § 3. The commission shall examine and review the historical importance of the battle of Brooklyn and conduct a study that would create a trail which shall connect the different sites along the battle of Brooklyn, as well as analyze how to best foster promotion of this historical event. § 4. The commission shall report its findings, conclusions and recom- mendations to the governor and the legislature no later than two years after the effective date of this act. § 5. This act shall take effect immediately and shall remain in effect until two years after it shall have become a law when upon such date the provisions of this act shall be deemed repealed. A commission, to be known as the Revolutionary War in New York commission, is hereby created to study all of the different events and battles that occurred in New York during the Revolutionary War peri- od, including, but not limited to the Battle of Brooklyn, the Battles of Saratoga, the capture and siege of Fort Ticonderoga, the occupation of New York by the British and the British Prison ships in New York Harbor. The study will include methods to promote and educate individuals on the historical importance of the Revolutionary War in New York. § 2. The commission shall be composed of eleven members, appointed as follows: three members shall be appointed by the governor; four members shall be appointed by the speaker of the assembly; one member shall be appointed by the minority leader of the assembly; two members shall be appointed by the temporary president of the senate; and one member shall be appointed by the minority leader of the senate. § 3.
