 AN  ACT to amend the social services law, in relation to the calculation
   of the shelter allowance for persons and families residing in  housing
   subsidized under section 8 of the United States housing act of 1937

   THE  PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM-
 BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:
 
   Section 1. Subdivision 2 of section 131-a of the social  services  law
 is amended by adding a new paragraph (c-1) to read as follows:
   (C-1)  NOTWITHSTANDING  THE PROVISIONS OF THIS CHAPTER OR OF ANY OTHER
 LAW OR REGULATION TO THE CONTRARY, THE SHELTER ALLOWANCE FOR A PERSON OR
 FAMILY RECEIVING  FEDERAL  LOW-INCOME  HOUSING  ASSISTANCE  PURSUANT  TO
 SECTION  8 OF THE UNITED STATES HOUSING ACT OF 1937 (42 U.S.C. § 1437F),
 AS AMENDED, SHALL BE THE MAXIMUM SHELTER ALLOWANCE PRESCRIBED  BY  REGU-
 LATIONS OF THE DEPARTMENT.
   § 2. This act shall take effect April 1, 2018.
