HEVESI -- read once and referred to the Committee on Social Services AN ACT to amend the social services law, in relation to the calculation of the shelter allowance for persons and families residing in housing subsidized under section 8 of the United States housing act of 1937 THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Subdivision 2 of section 131-a of the social services law is amended by adding a new paragraph (c-1) to read as follows: (C-1) NOTWITHSTANDING THE PROVISIONS OF THIS CHAPTER OR OF ANY OTHER LAW OR REGULATION TO THE CONTRARY, THE SHELTER ALLOWANCE FOR A PERSON OR FAMILY RECEIVING FEDERAL LOW-INCOME HOUSING ASSISTANCE PURSUANT TO SECTION 8 OF THE UNITED STATES HOUSING ACT OF 1937 (42 U.S.C. § 1437F), AS AMENDED, SHALL BE THE MAXIMUM SHELTER ALLOWANCE PRESCRIBED BY REGU- LATIONS OF THE DEPARTMENT. § 2. This act shall take effect April 1, 2018. EXPLANATION--Matter in ITALICS (underscored) is new; matter in brackets [ ] is old law to be omitted. LBD11820-01-7
