 Introduced  by  Sen.  BROOKS -- read twice and ordered printed, and when
   printed to be committed to the Committee on Consumer Protection
 
 AN ACT to amend the general business law, in relation to requiring  that
   a  homeowner  be  provided  a cost estimate for installation of a fire
   sprinkler system

   THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND  ASSEM-
 BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:
 
   Section 1. The general business law is amended by adding a new section
 771-b to read as follows:
   §  771-B.  FOR ALL PRIVATE, ONE-FAMILY HOME CONSTRUCTION CONTRACTED ON
 OR AFTER THE EFFECTIVE DATE OF THIS SECTION, THE HOME CONSTRUCTION ESTI-
 MATE MUST INCLUDE A COST ESTIMATE FOR THE INSTALLATION OF A FIRE  SPRIN-
 KLER  SYSTEM.  NOTHING IN THIS SECTION SHALL BE CONSTRUED TO REQUIRE THE
 HOME BUYER TO PURCHASE SUCH A SYSTEM.
   § 2. This act shall  take  effect  on  the  first  of  September  next
 succeeding the date on which it shall have become a law.
