BILL NUMBER: S6520 TITLE OF BILL : An act to amend the public service law, in relation to establishing the renewable energy tariff PURPOSE : To provide customers of electric corporations with the option to purchase electricity provided one-hundred percent from renewable energy. SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS : Section 1 adds a new section 66-o to the public service law, which provides that on or before September 1, 2017, each combination gas and electric corporation shall file an application with the commission to establish a tariff for the purpose of purchasing electricity provided one-hundred percent from renewable energy. This section further provides that on or before January 1, 2018, the commission shall, after notice and opportunity for public comment, approve, modify, or reject the tariff. Within sixty days of commission approval of a combination gas and electric corporation's tariff filed pursuant to this section, such combination gas and electric corporation shall make the tariff available to customers. HAMILTON -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Energy and Telecommuni- cations AN ACT to amend the public service law, in relation to establishing the renewable energy tariff THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. The public service law is amended by adding a new section 66-o to read as follows: § 66-O. RENEWABLE ENERGY TARIFF. 1. ON OR BEFORE SEPTEMBER FIRST, TWO THOUSAND SEVENTEEN, EACH COMBINATION GAS AND ELECTRIC CORPORATION SHALL FILE AN APPLICATION WITH THE COMMISSION TO ESTABLISH A TARIFF FOR THE PURPOSE OF PURCHASING ELECTRICITY THAT IS ONE HUNDRED PERCENT GENERATED FROM RENEWABLE SOURCES, AS DEFINED BY THE COMMISSION AND CONSISTENT WITH THE MOST RECENT STATE ENERGY PLAN PURSUANT TO ARTICLE SIX OF THE ENERGY LAW. 2. ON OR BEFORE JANUARY FIRST, TWO THOUSAND EIGHTEEN, THE COMMISSION SHALL, AFTER NOTICE AND OPPORTUNITY FOR PUBLIC COMMENT, APPROVE, MODIFY, OR REJECT THE TARIFF. 3. WITHIN SIXTY DAYS OF THE COMMISSION'S APPROVAL OF A COMBINATION GAS AND ELECTRIC CORPORATION'S TARIFF FILED PURSUANT TO THIS SECTION, SUCH COMBINATION GAS AND ELECTRIC CORPORATION SHALL MAKE THE TARIFF AVAILABLE TO CUSTOMERS. 4.
