BILL NUMBER: S7271 SPONSOR: RANZENHOFER TITLE OF BILL: An act to amend the vehicle and traffic law, in relation to the permissible level of rear side window tinting for all vehicles PURPOSE: To require that all vehicles have rear windows tinted to less than seventy percent. SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS: Section 1 amends subparagraph 3 of paragraph (b) of subdivision 12-a of section 375 of the Vehicle and Traffic Law to delete the condition that only vehicles classified as a station wagon, sedan, hardtop, coupe hatchback or convertible are limited to tinting on rear side windows of less than seventy percent. Section 2: Effective date.

RANZENHOFER -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Transportation AN ACT to amend the vehicle and traffic law, in relation to the permis- sible level of rear side window tinting for all vehicles THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Subparagraph 3 of paragraph (b) of subdivision 12-a of section 375 of the vehicle and traffic law, as amended by chapter 155 of the laws of 1991, is amended to read as follows: (3) if [it is classified as a station wagon, sedan, hardtop, coupe, hatchback or convertible and] any rear side window has a light transmit- tance of less than seventy percent; or § 2. This act shall take effect on the ninetieth day after it shall have become a law. EXPLANATION--Matter in ITALICS (underscored) is new; matter in brackets [ ] is old law to be omitted. LBD13362-01-7
