   printed to be committed to the Committee on Education
 
 AN ACT to amend  the  education  law,  in  relation  to  cyber  security
   instruction
 
   THE  PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM-
 BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:

   Section 1. The education law is amended by adding a new section  804-e
 to read as follows:
   §  804-E.  CYBER SECURITY INSTRUCTION. 1. INSTRUCTIONS REGARDING CYBER
 SECURITY MAY BE OFFERED FOR VOLUNTARY ADMISSION AS PART OF ANY INTRODUC-
 TION TO COMPUTERS COURSE, COMPUTING SYSTEMS COURSE, COMPUTER AND  INFOR-
 MATION TECHNOLOGY COURSE, COMPUTER APPLICATIONS COURSE, COMPUTER LITERA-
 CY COURSE OR BUSINESS COMPUTER APPLICATIONS COURSE, IN ALL SCHOOLS.
   2.  THE  COMMISSIONER,  TOGETHER  WITH  THE  DIRECTOR OF THE OFFICE OF
 INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY SERVICES, SHALL PROVIDE TECHNICAL  ASSISTANCE  IN
 THE  DEVELOPMENT  OF CURRICULA FOR SUCH COURSES OF STUDY, WHICH SHALL BE
 AGE APPROPRIATE AND DEVELOPED ACCORDING TO THE NEEDS  AND  ABILITIES  OF
 PUPILS  AT  SUCCESSIVE GRADE LEVELS IN ORDER TO PROVIDE AWARENESS SKILLS
 AND INFORMATION.
   3. SCHOOL AUTHORITIES THAT CHOOSE TO OFFER SUCH COURSES SHALL  PROVIDE
 THE  NEEDED  FACILITIES, TIME AND PLACE FOR THE INSTRUCTION SET FORTH IN
 THIS SECTION AND SHALL PROVIDE LEARNING  AIDS  AND  CURRICULUM  RESOURCE
 MATERIALS TO SUPPORT SUCH COURSES OF STUDY.
   § 2. This act shall take effect on the one hundred eightieth day after
 it shall have become a law.
