BILL NUMBER: S2525 TITLE OF BILL : An act to amend the insurance law, in relation to annuity dividend reinvestment SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS : Section 1 of the bill would amend section 4231 of the Insurance Law to clarify that for purposes of any individual or group participating annuity contract, the annuitant may elect to reinvest the annuity dividend. Section 2 is the effective date. JUSTIFICATION : This proposal seeks to amend § 4231 of the insurance law to clarify that paid-up additions are an option for the use of policyholder dividends by annuitants. This revision is beneficial to the annuity customer since it will allow them to have the option to automatically reinvest their policyholder dividend distributions to paid-up additions in their annuity contract, which can then be converted into future income.
