BILL NUMBER: S5751 TITLE OF BILL : An act to amend the executive law, in relation to establishing September fourth of each year as a day of commemoration known as "Mother Teresa Remembrance Day" PURPOSE OR GENERAL IDEA OF BILL : To recognize and honor an extraordinary woman whose lifework, spiritual leadership and guidance serves to enhance the quality of life for others. SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS : This bill would amend § 168-a (3) of the Executive Law to add a State day of commemoration, September fourth of each year to be known as "Mother Teresa Remembrance Day." JUSTIFICATION : Mother Teresa was truly a model of compassion and charity who served the needs of the sick and the poorest of the poor. She was declared a Saint on September 4, 2016 by Pope Francis, at a ceremony conducted at the Vatican in Rome, Italy after the Church's finding that two miracles, for which no scientific explanations could be found, could be attributed to her.
