   printed to be committed to the Committee on Rules
 
 AN ACT to amend a chapter of the laws of 2017, relating to  establishing
   a  temporary  state  commission  to  study  child  abuse  and  neglect
   prevention, as proposed in legislative bills numbers S.  233A  and  A.
   5769A,  in  relation  to  establishing  a temporary state taskforce to
   study child abuse and neglect prevention
 
   THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND  ASSEM-
 BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:
 
   Section  1.  Sections  1,  2,  3, 4, and 5 of a chapter of the laws of
 2017, establishing a temporary state commission to study child abuse and
 neglect prevention, as proposed in legislative bills numbers S. 233A and
 A. 5769A, are amended to read as follows:
   Section 1. A temporary state [commission] TASKFORCE on child abuse and
 neglect prevention is hereby established to examine, evaluate  and  make
 recommendations concerning child abuse and neglect prevention efforts in
 the  state  with  the goal of preventing child removals, lowering foster
 care placements and increasing family reunification.
   § 2. The [commission]  TASKFORCE  shall  consist  of  [nine]  THIRTEEN
 members,  with  adequate  geographic  representation, to be appointed as
 follows: [three] SEVEN members to be appointed by  the  governor;  three
 members  to  be  appointed by the temporary president of the senate; and
 three members to be appointed  by  the  speaker  of  the  assembly.  The
 members shall have demonstrated experience and expertise in the field of
 child  abuse  and  neglect  prevention.  The members of the [commission]
 TASKFORCE shall receive no compensation for their services, but shall be
 reimbursed for their actual  and  necessary  expenses  incurred  in  the
 performance of their duties under this act.
   §  3.  The [commission] TASKFORCE shall meet and may hold public hear-
 ings, and may undertake any studies, inquiries, surveys or  analyses  it
 deems relevant in cooperation with or by agreement with any other public
 or private agency.
