BILL NUMBER: S7829 SPONSOR: BOYLE TITLE OF BILL: An act directing the department of transportation to study the weight limitations for fire vehicles with pneumatic tires PURPOSE OR GENERAL IDEA OF BILL: This bill will require the department of transportation to study whether the current weight exemptions for fire trucks are adequate. SUMMARY OF SPECIFIC PROVISIONS: Section 1. Requires department to conduct a study within 3 months of the effective date. 2. Requires the study to be completed within 1 year of the study begin- ning, and be reported to the governor and the legislature. 3. Department should evaluate the data with the assistance of experts in highway and road limitations, fire vehicles and traffic safety.

BOYLE, CROCI -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Transportation AN ACT directing the department of transportation to study the weight limitations for fire vehicles with pneumatic tires THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. The department of transportation shall conduct a study within three months of the effective date of this act, to evaluate weight limitations for fire vehicles with pneumatic tires as set forth in subdivision 17-b of section 385 of the vehicle and traffic law, to determine whether such weight limitations should be increased to permit use on the state's highways and roads. § 2. No later than one year after the effective date of this act, the department of transportation shall submit to the governor and the legis- lature a report on the weight limitations of fire vehicles operating on the state's highways and roads, as described in section one of this act. § 3. The department shall evaluate such data with the assistance of experts in: a. highway and road weight limitations; b. fire vehicles; and c. traffic safety. § 4.
