BILL NUMBER: S8082 SPONSOR: HANNON TITLE OF BILL: An act to amend the public health law, in relation to the appointment of the state medicaid director PURPOSE: Provides that the Medicaid Director shall be confirmed with the advice and consent of the State Senate. SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS: Section one of the bill amends section 208-a of the public health law to direct the Medicaid Director be appointed by the governor, by and with the advice and consent of the senate. JUSTIFICATION: New York State's Medicaid program now serves 1 in 3 residents and spends

HANNON -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Health AN ACT to amend the public health law, in relation to the appointment of the state medicaid director THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. The public health law is amended by adding a new section 208-a to read as follows: § 208-A. MEDICAID DIRECTOR. NOTWITHSTANDING ANY OTHER PROVISION OF THIS ARTICLE, THE POSITION OF MEDICAID DIRECTOR SHALL BE APPOINTED BY THE GOVERNOR, BY AND WITH THE ADVICE AND CONSENT OF THE SENATE. § 2. This act shall take effect immediately and shall apply to appointments made on or after such date.
