S T A T E O F N E W Y O R K ________________________________________________________________________ 10743 I N A S S E M B L Y July 9, 2020 ___________ Introduced by COMMITTEE ON RULES -- (at request of M. of A. Hevesi) -- read once and referred to the Committee on Social Services AN ACT to amend the social services law, in relation to providing that receipt of the temporary emergency increase in unemployment compen- sation benefits as provided for by the federal Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act (15 U.S.C. Sec. 9023) shall not affect benefit eligibility for certain public assistance benefits THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Paragraph (a) of subdivision 8 of section 131-a of the social services law is amended by adding a new subparagraph (x) to read as follows: (X) ALL OF THE INCOME RECEIVED DUE TO THE TEMPORARY EMERGENCY INCREASE IN UNEMPLOYMENT COMPENSATION BENEFITS AS PROVIDED FOR BY THE FEDERAL CORONAVIRUS AID, RELIEF, AND ECONOMIC SECURITY ACT (15 U.S.C. SEC. 9023). § 2. Subdivision 4 of section 95 of the social services law, as amended by chapter 41 of the laws of 2012, is amended to read as follows: 4. (A) A person's need or eligibility for public assistance and care shall not be affected by his or her receipt of SNAP benefits. (B) A PERSON'S ELIGIBILITY FOR THE SUPPLEMENTAL NUTRITION PROGRAM SHALL NOT BE AFFECTED BY RECEIPT OF THE TEMPORARY EMERGENCY INCREASE IN UNEMPLOYMENT COMPENSATION BENEFITS AS PROVIDED FOR BY THE FEDERAL CORO- NAVIRUS AID, RELIEF, AND ECONOMIC SECURITY ACT (15 U.S.C. SEC. 9023). § 3. This act shall take effect immediately and shall be deemed to have been in full force and effect on and after March 27, 2020.
