   read once and referred to the Committee on Health
 
 AN ACT to amend the public health law, in relation  to  providing  addi-
   tional information and statistics to maternity patients
 
   THE  PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM-
 BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:

   Section 1. Section 2803-j of the public  health  law,  as  amended  by
 chapter  62  of the laws of 1996, is amended by adding a new subdivision
 2-a to read as follows:
   2-A. (A) SUCH LEAFLET SHALL ALSO INCLUDE STATISTICS RELATING TO MATER-
 NAL MORTALITY AND  MORBIDITY  AT  SUCH  HOSPITAL  OR  BIRTH  CENTER,  AS
 PROVIDED  BY  THE COMMISSIONER, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO THE FOLLOW-
 ING:
   (I) THE ANNUAL RATE OF MATERNAL DEATHS, DURING AND  UP  TO  SIX  WEEKS
 AFTER CHILDBIRTH;
   (II) THE RATE OF THIRD TRIMESTER FETAL LOSSES AND STILLBIRTHS;
   (III) THE ANNUAL PERCENTAGE OF WOMEN EXPERIENCING HEMORRHAGE DURING OR
 IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWING CHILDBIRTH; AND
   (IV)  INJURIES  RELATED  TO  CHILDBIRTH INCLUDING DAMAGE TO TISSUE AND
 ORGANS DURING CESAREAN BIRTHS,  AND  THIRD  AND  FOURTH  DEGREE  TEARING
 DURING VAGINAL BIRTHS.
   (B)  SUCH LEAFLET SHALL INCLUDE A BREAKDOWN OF RACIAL DEMOGRAPHICS FOR
 EACH OF THE STATISTICS REQUIRED IN PARAGRAPH (A) OF THIS SUBDIVISION.
   § 2. This act shall take effect on the sixtieth  day  after  it  shall
 have become a law.
