 AN  ACT  to  amend  the  civil service law, in relation to employment of
   retired members of the division of state police  as  part-time  police
   officers in certain villages in the county of Franklin
 
   THE  PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM-
 BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:
 
   Section 1. Section 58 of the civil service law is amended by adding  a
 new subdivision 1-a to read as follows:
   1-A.  NOTWITHSTANDING  ANY PROVISION OF LAW TO THE CONTRARY, INCLUDING
 ANY OTHER PROVISION OF THIS  SECTION,  THE  BOARD  OF  TRUSTEES  OF  THE
 VILLAGES  OF  MALONE,  SARANAC  LAKE  AND  TUPPER LAKE, IN THE COUNTY OF
 FRANKLIN, MAY AUTHORIZE THE APPOINTMENT AND EMPLOYMENT, WITHOUT EXAMINA-
 TION OR COMPLIANCE WITH ANY OTHER REQUIREMENT  OF  THIS  SECTION,  AS  A
 PART-TIME  POLICE  OFFICER  WITH  ITS  VILLAGE POLICE DEPARTMENT, OF ANY
 RETIRED FORMER MEMBER OF THE DIVISION OF STATE POLICE.
   § 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
