 AN ACT to authorize the city of Yonkers to  establish  a  transportation
   improvement  district or districts for the purpose of improving trans-
   portation in certain critical areas of such city

   THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND  ASSEM-
 BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:
 
   Section  1.  Notwithstanding any provision of law to the contrary, but
 to the extent practicable, in accordance with the general city law,  the
 city  of  Yonkers,  acting  by  and  through its city council, is hereby
 authorized  to  establish  and  operate  a  transportation   improvement
 district  or  transportation improvement districts within such city. The
 purpose of such district or districts shall be to improve transportation
 within certain critical areas of the city of Yonkers including, but  not
 limited  to  the  Tuckahoe  road corridor, the Yonkers raceway area, the
 Nepperhan/Saw Mill industrial valley area,  the  northern  and  southern
 waterfront development areas, the Riverdale avenue corridor, the Yonkers
 avenue corridor and neighborhood commercial corridors.
   § 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
