 AN ACT to amend the education law, in  relation  to  providing  optional
   doorstops  or  other  similar  devices to school districts for certain
   emergency situations
 
   THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND  ASSEM-
 BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:
 
   Section 1. The education law is amended by adding a new section 409-ff
 to read as follows:
   §  409-FF. OPTIONAL EMERGENCY DOORSTOPS. NOTWITHSTANDING ANY LAW, RULE
 OR REGULATION TO THE CONTRARY, ALL SCHOOL DISTRICTS  MAY  UTILIZE  DOOR-
 STOPS  OR  ANY  IMPROVISED OR MANUFACTURED DEVICES DESIGNED TO PREVENT A
 DOOR FROM BEING OPENED DURING AN EMERGENCY IN CLASSROOMS DURING EMERGEN-
 CY SITUATIONS TO PREVENT ACCESS TO SUCH CLASSROOMS. FOR PURPOSES OF THIS
 SECTION, EMERGENCY SITUATION SHALL NOT INCLUDE ANY SITUATION INVOLVING A
 FIRE HAZARD.
   § 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
