 AN  ACT  to  amend  the  vehicle  and traffic law, in relation to carbon
   monoxide detectors in vehicles manufactured and assembled  after  July
   1, 2020
 
   THE  PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM-
 BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:
 
   Section 1. The vehicle and traffic law is  amended  by  adding  a  new
 section 384 to read as follows:
   §  384.  CARBON  MONOXIDE  DETECTORS. NO MOTOR VEHICLE MANUFACTURED OR
 ASSEMBLED AFTER JULY FIRST, TWO THOUSAND TWENTY SHALL BE SOLD OR  REGIS-
 TERED  IN  THIS  STATE UNLESS SUCH VEHICLE HAS THE OPTION TO BE EQUIPPED
 WITH A CARBON MONOXIDE (CO) DETECTOR  TO  ENSURE  THAT  CARBON  MONOXIDE
 LEVELS IN THE CAB OF THE VEHICLE HAVE NOT REACHED UNSAFE LEVELS.
   § 2. The commissioner of the department of motor vehicles shall estab-
 lish by regulation standards for carbon monoxide detectors in vehicles.
   § 3. This act shall take effect immediately.
