 AN ACT to amend the vehicle and traffic law, in  relation  to  dashboard
   cameras on sanitation vehicles
 
   THE  PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM-
 BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:

   Section 1. Section 375 of the vehicle and traffic law  is  amended  by
 adding a new subdivision 53 to read as follows:
   53.  A VEHICLE OPERATED FOR THE PURPOSE OF PROVIDING SOLID, HAZARDOUS,
 OR MEDICAL WASTE COLLECTION, RECYCLING OR  DISPOSAL  SERVICES  SHALL  BE
 EQUIPPED  WITH  AN  OPERATING  DASHBOARD  CAMERA.  SUCH  CAMERA SHALL BE
 RECORDING AT ALL TIMES SUCH VEHICLE IS BEING OPERATED FOR THE PURPOSE OF
 PROVIDING SOLID, HAZARDOUS, OR MEDICAL WASTE  COLLECTION,  RECYCLING  OR
 DISPOSAL SERVICES. THE VIDEO RECORDING OF SUCH DASHBOARD CAMERA SHALL BE
 PRESERVED  BY THE OWNER OF SUCH SANITATION VEHICLE FOR A PERIOD OF FOUR-
 TEEN DAYS AFTER THE DATE IT IS RECORDED. THE PROVISIONS OF THIS SUBDIVI-
 SION SHALL NOT APPLY TO VEHICLES OWNED OR OPERATED BY  A  COUNTY,  CITY,
 TOWN, VILLAGE OR A POLITICAL SUBDIVISION OF THE STATE.
   § 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
