 AN ACT to amend the vehicle and traffic law,  in  relation  to  allowing
   snowmobiles to be registered as farm vehicles
 
   THE  PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM-
 BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:
 
   Section 1. Section 2222 of the vehicle and traffic law is  amended  by
 adding a new subdivision 15 to read as follows:
   15. REGISTRATION OF SNOWMOBILES TO BE USED AS FARM VEHICLES.  NOTWITH-
 STANDING ANY OTHER PROVISION OF LAW TO THE CONTRARY, A SNOWMOBILE MAY BE
 REGISTERED  AS  A  MOTOR  VEHICLE  IN  ACCORDANCE WITH THE PROVISIONS OF
 SUBDIVISION THIRTEEN OF SECTION FOUR HUNDRED ONE OF THIS CHAPTER,  WHERE
 THE  OWNER  OF  SUCH SNOWMOBILE HAS CAUSED TO BE FILED BY MAIL OR OTHER-
 WISE, WITH THE COMMISSIONER OR WITH ANY AGENT OF  THE  COMMISSIONER,  AN
 APPLICATION  FOR  REGISTRATION  OF  SUCH  SNOWMOBILE,  ADDRESSED  TO THE
 COMMISSIONER, AND ON A BLANK FORM TO BE FURNISHED  BY  THE  COMMISSIONER
 FOR  THAT  PURPOSE,  CONTAINING  THE INFORMATION REQUIRED BY SUBDIVISION
 THIRTEEN OF SECTION FOUR HUNDRED ONE OF THIS CHAPTER.  THE  COMMISSIONER
 OR  AGENT  SHALL  MAKE  SUCH INVESTIGATION, AS HE OR SHE SHALL DETERMINE
 NECESSARY, AND IF SATISFIED THAT THE SNOWMOBILE IS TO BE OPERATED EXCLU-
 SIVELY AS A MOTOR VEHICLE AS PROVIDED BY SUBDIVISION THIRTEEN OF SECTION
 FOUR HUNDRED ONE OF THIS CHAPTER SHALL, UPON THE PAYMENT OF A FEE OF ONE
 DOLLAR, ASSIGN TO SUCH SNOWMOBILE A DISTINCTIVE  NUMBER  AND  ISSUE  AND
 DELIVER  TO  THE  APPLICANT  A SET OF NUMBER PLATES AND A CERTIFICATE OF
 REGISTRATION IN SUCH FORM AS THE COMMISSIONER SHALL PRESCRIBE,  INDICAT-
 ING THE EXTENT TO WHICH THE SNOWMOBILE REGISTERED MAY BE OPERATED ON THE
 PUBLIC  HIGHWAYS  AND  SUCH  SNOWMOBILE MAY BE OPERATED ONLY AS SO INDI-
 CATED.
   § 2. Section 2229 of the vehicle and traffic law, as amended by  chap-
 ter 481 of the laws of 1990, is amended to read as follows:

 AN  ACT  to  amend  the vehicle and traffic law, in relation to allowing
   snowmobiles and all-terrain vehicles to be registered as farm vehicles
 
   THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND  ASSEM-
 BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:
