AN ACT to amend the criminal procedure law, in relation to speedy trials
THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM-
BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. Paragraphs (d) and (e) of subdivision 1 of section 30.30 of
the criminal procedure law, paragraph (d) as amended and paragraph (e)
as added by section 1 of part KKK of chapter 59 of the laws of 2019, are
amended to read as follows:
(d) thirty days of the commencement of a criminal action wherein the
defendant is accused of one or more offenses, at least one of which is a
violation and none of which is a crime. HOWEVER, IN THOSE SUCH JURIS-
DICTIONS HAVING A POPULATION OF SIXTY THOUSAND OR LESS, SUCH TIME FRAME
SHALL BE NINETY DAYS OF THE COMMENCEMENT OF A CRIMINAL ACTION WHEREIN
THE DEFENDANT IS ACCUSED OF ONE OR MORE OFFENSES, AT LEAST ONE OF WHICH
IS A VIOLATION AND NONE OF WHICH IS A CRIME.
[(e) for the purposes of this subdivision, the term offense shall
include vehicle and traffic law infractions.]
§ 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
