BILL NUMBER: S7860 SPONSOR: MARTINEZ TITLE OF BILL: An act to amend the workers' compensation law, in relation to paid fami- ly leave and siblings PURPOSE OR GENERAL IDEA OF BILL: The purpose of this legislation is to add siblings to the definition of family member in relation to Paid Family Leave. SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS: Section 1. A new subdivision 24 is added to Section 201 of the Workers' Compensation Law, which defines "sibling". Section 2. Subdivision 20 of section 201 of the Workers' Compensation Law is amended by adding "sibling" to the definition of "family member".

MARTINEZ -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Labor AN ACT to amend the workers' compensation law, in relation to paid fami- ly leave and siblings THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Section 201 of the workers' compensation law is amended by adding a new subdivision 24 to read as follows: 24. "SIBLING" MEANS A BIOLOGICAL OR ADOPTED SIBLING, A HALF-SIBLING OR STEPSIBLING. § 2. Subdivision 20 of section 201 of the workers' compensation law, as added by section 2 of part SS of chapter 54 of the laws of 2016, is amended to read as follows: 20. "Family member" means a child, parent, grandparent, grandchild, SIBLING, spouse, or domestic partner as defined in this section. § 3. This act shall take effect on the ninetieth day after it shall have become a law and shall apply to all policies or contracts issued, renewed, modified, altered or amended on or after such date.
