BILL NUMBER: S8134 SPONSOR: METZGER TITLE OF BILL: An act to amend the agriculture and markets law, in relation to an online farm portal to advertise farm employment opportunities SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS: Section 1 amends section 16 of the agriculture and markets law by adding a new subdivision 51 that requires the department of agriculture and markets, in coordination with the department of labor, to create an online farm employment portal where farmers could advertise employment opportunities and persons could apply for such opportunities. The department shall, in coordination with any appropriate entity, publicize the existence of the portal, and shall provide assistance to farmers in using it. The department shall post a link to the portal on its website. Section 2 provides the effective date.

METZGER -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Agriculture AN ACT to amend the agriculture and markets law, in relation to an online farm portal to advertise farm employment opportunities THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Section 16 of the agriculture and markets law is amended by adding a new subdivision 51 to read as follows: 51. ESTABLISH AND ADMINISTER, IN COORDINATION WITH THE DEPARTMENT OF LABOR, AN ONLINE FARM EMPLOYMENT PORTAL. SUCH PORTAL SHALL BE A LOCATION FOR FARMERS TO ADVERTISE EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES AND FOR PERSONS TO APPLY FOR SUCH EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES. THE DEPARTMENT, IN COORDINATION WITH THE DEPARTMENT OF LABOR AND ANY OTHER APPROPRIATE ENTITIES AND ASSOCIATIONS, SHALL ADVERTISE THE EXISTENCE AND USE OF SUCH PORTAL TO FARMERS IN THE STATE, AND SHALL PROVIDE ASSISTANCE TO ANY FARMER USING SUCH PORTAL. THE DEPARTMENT SHALL ALSO POST A LINK TO SUCH PORTAL ON ITS WEBSITE. § 2. This act shall take effect on the thirtieth day after it shall have become a law.
