BILL NUMBER: S8747 SPONSOR: KENNEDY TITLE OF BILL: An act to amend the insurance law, in relation to allowing insurance carriers to offer a discount to drivers who have been trained to operate an authorized emergency vehicle PURPOSE OR GENERAL IDEA OF BILL: The purpose of this bill is to allow insurance carriers to offer a discount to drivers who have been trained to operate an authorized emer- gency vehicle. SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS: Section I. amends Section 2336 of the insurance law by adding a new subsection (i). Section 2. is the enacting clause.

KENNEDY -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Rules AN ACT to amend the insurance law, in relation to allowing insurance carriers to offer a discount to drivers who have been trained to oper- ate an authorized emergency vehicle THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Section 2336 of the insurance law is amended by adding a new subsection (i) to read as follows: (I) A SCHEDULE OF RATES OR RATING PLAN FOR MOTOR VEHICLE LIABILITY AND COLLISION INSURANCE SUBMITTED TO THE SUPERINTENDENT MAY PROVIDE FOR AN APPROPRIATE REDUCTION IN PREMIUM CHARGES FOR ANY INSURED, FOR A PERIOD OF TIME WHICH SHALL BE DETERMINED BY THE SUPERINTENDENT, WHO HAS BEEN TRAINED TO OPERATE AN AUTHORIZED EMERGENCY VEHICLE, AS DEFINED BY SECTION ONE HUNDRED ONE OF THE VEHICLE AND TRAFFIC LAW. ON OR BEFORE THE EFFECTIVE DATE OF THIS SUBSECTION, THE COMMISSIONER OF MOTOR VEHICLES SHALL CREATE A FORM, WHICH SHALL BE POSTED ON THE DEPARTMENT OF MOTOR VEHICLES' WEBSITE, WHEREBY EMPLOYERS OF DRIVERS OF AUTHORIZED EMERGENCY VEHICLES CAN AFFIRM THAT A DRIVER HAS IN FACT BEEN TRAINED TO OPERATE AN AUTHORIZED EMERGENCY VEHICLE. § 2. This act shall take effect on the one hundred eightieth day after it shall have become a law. Effective immediately, the addition, amend- ment and/or repeal of any rule or regulation necessary for the implemen- tation of this act on its effective date are authorized to be made and completed on or before such effective date.
