   printed to be committed to the Committee on Transportation
 
 AN ACT to amend the vehicle and traffic law, in  relation  to  codifying
   distinctive  plates  for emergency medical technicians and eliminating
   the annual service charge for such plates

   THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND  ASSEM-
 BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:
 
   Section  1.  The  vehicle  and  traffic law is amended by adding a new
 section 404-ff to read as follows:
   § 404-FF. DISTINCTIVE PLATES FOR EMERGENCY MEDICAL  TECHNICIANS.    1.
 ANY  EMERGENCY  MEDICAL  TECHNICIANS  RESIDING IN THIS STATE SHALL, UPON
 REQUEST, BE ISSUED A LICENSE PLATE BEARING THE WORDS "EMERGENCY  MEDICAL
 TECHNICIAN".  APPLICATION FOR SAID LICENSE PLATE SHALL BE FILED WITH THE
 COMMISSIONER   IN  SUCH  FORM  AND  DETAIL  AS  THE  COMMISSIONER  SHALL
 PRESCRIBE.
   2. THE DISTINCTIVE PLATE AUTHORIZED HEREIN SHALL BE ISSUED UPON PROOF,
 SATISFACTORY TO THE COMMISSIONER, THAT THE  APPLICANT  IS  AN  EMERGENCY
 MEDICAL TECHNICIAN.
   3. A DISTINCTIVE PLATE ISSUED PURSUANT TO THIS SECTION SHALL BE ISSUED
 IN  THE  SAME  MANNER  AS  OTHER NUMBER PLATES UPON PAYMENT OF THE SIXTY
 DOLLAR REGISTRATION FEE,  PROVIDED,  HOWEVER,  THAT  NO  ANNUAL  SERVICE
 CHARGE SHALL BE CHARGED FOR SUCH PLATE.
   § 2. Distinctive plates issued prior to the effective date of this act
 bearing  the words "Emergency Medical Technician" shall be considered to
 have been issued under section 404-ff of the vehicle and traffic law and
 all such plates issued after the effective date of  this  act  shall  be
 issued with the same issuance requirements, fees, and service charges as
 a plate issued under such section.
   § 3. This act shall take effect immediately.
