TITLE OF BILL: An act to amend chapter 210 of the laws of 2009 amend-
ing the county law relating to communication service surcharges applied
to Tompkins county, in relation to extending the provisions of such
chapter
PURPOSE:
The purpose of this bill is to extend the authority granted to Tompkins
County to increase the wireline service surcharge in Tompkins County.
SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS:
Section 1 of the bill extends the expiration date of the communication
service surcharge.
Section 2 requires that this bill take effect immediately.

AN ACT to amend chapter 210 of the laws of 2009 amending the county law
relating to communication service surcharges applied to Tompkins coun-
ty, in relation to extending the provisions of such chapter
THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM-
BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. Subdivision (a) of section 2 of chapter 210 of the laws of
2009 amending the county law relating to communication service
surcharges applied to Tompkins county is amended to read as follows:
(a) this act shall expire and be deemed repealed [10] 20 years after
such date;
§ 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
EXPLANATION--Matter in ITALICS (underscored) is new; matter in brackets
[ ] is old law to be omitted.

PURPOSE:
To permit Tompkins County to impose a surcharge on each telephone land-
line to pay for the costs associated with obtaining, operating and main-
taining an enhanced emergency 911 communication system.
SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS:
Section 1(a) amends chapter 210 of the laws of 2009 authorizing a commu-
nication service surcharge in Tompkins County and providing for expira-
tion and repeal of this act 20 years after the enactment date.
Section 2 provides the effective date.
