BILL NUMBER: S7158 REVISED 01/10/2020 SPONSOR: LIU TITLE OF BILL: An act to amend chapter 667 of the laws of 1868, relating to enabling Conrad Poppenhusen to found an institution in the village of College Point, in relation to clarifying the name of such institution PURPOSE OR GENERAL IDEA OF BILL: To clarify the name of "The Conrad Poppenhusen Association" to remove the word "The" from the official legal name to better align with the name used in practice. JUSTIFICATION: The "Conrad Poppenhusen Association" was created through an act of legislation in 1868 and has operated under that name for at least the last 50 years. This bill corrects a capitalization of "The" in the original legislation to make the official name the "Conrad Poppenhusen

LIU -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Local Government AN ACT to amend chapter 667 of the laws of 1868, relating to enabling Conrad Poppenhusen to found an institution in the village of College Point, in relation to clarifying the name of such institution THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Section 2 of chapter 667 of the laws of 1868 is amended to read as follows: § 2. Conrad Poppenhusen and his assigns shall be and hereby are constituted a body corporate, by the name and title of THE "[The] Conrad Poppenhusen Association[, for the advancement of knowledge, and the improvement of the moral and social condition of the working classes,]" and its corporate existence shall commence when the said Conrad Poppen- husen shall convey or devise to it the lands above mentioned, and the sum of one hundred thousand dollars. § 2.
