 AN ACT to amend the  general  municipal  law,  in  relation  to  barring
   persons  who  commit  grand  larceny  from  service award programs for
   volunteer firefighters
 
   THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND  ASSEM-
 BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:

   Section  1.  Subdivision  (m)  of section 217 of the general municipal
 law, as added by chapter 617 of the laws of 1995, is amended to read  as
 follows:
   (m)  A  participant  who  is  convicted of the crime of arson OR GRAND
 LARCENY in any degree as defined in the penal law shall not be  eligible
 to  receive  benefits from a service award program and shall forfeit any
 and all rights he or she may have had to past or future benefits  pursu-
 ant to a service award program.
   § 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
