 AN ACT to amend the penal law, in relation to  establishing  "Jeremiah's
   Law"  relating  to  establishing  the offense of filing a false report
   concerning a minor
 
   THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND  ASSEM-
 BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:
 
   Section  1.  Short  title. This act shall be known and may be cited as
 "Jeremiah's Law".
   § 2. The penal law is amended by adding a new section 240.49  to  read
 as follows:
 § 240.49 FILING A FALSE REPORT CONCERNING A MINOR.
   A PERSON IS GUILTY OF FILING A FALSE REPORT CONCERNING A MINOR WHEN HE
 OR  SHE  FALSELY REPORTS AN INCIDENT IN THE THIRD DEGREE AS DESCRIBED IN
 SECTION 240.50 OF THIS ARTICLE AND THE INDIVIDUAL  WHO  IS  THE  ACCUSED
 SUBJECT OF THE REPORT IS A CHILD UNDER THE AGE OF THIRTEEN YEARS.
   FILING A FALSE REPORT CONCERNING A MINOR IS A CLASS E FELONY.
   § 3. This act shall take effect on the first of November next succeed-
 ing the date upon which it shall have become a law.
