 AN ACT to authorize John Raftery of the town of Shawangunk to  take  the
   competitive civil service examination for the position of police offi-
   cer  and  be placed on the eligible list for employment as a full-time
   police officer for the town of Shawangunk police department
 
   THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND  ASSEM-
 BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:
 
   Section  1.  Notwithstanding the provisions of section 58 of the civil
 service law, including the  age  requirements  under  paragraph  (a)  of
 subdivision  1  of  such  section,  or any other provision of law to the
 contrary, John Raftery, employed by the town of Shawangunk, in the coun-
 ty of Ulster, as a part-time police officer, shall be eligible  to  take
 the  competitive  civil  service  examination for the position of police
 officer and shall, contingent upon his score  on  such  examination,  be
 eligible  to  be  placed on the eligible list for appointment as a full-
 time police officer with the town of Shawangunk police department.
   § 2. John Raftery shall otherwise be subject to the merit and  fitness
 provisions of the civil service law applicable to full-time police offi-
 cers.
   § 3. This act shall take effect immediately.
