 AN ACT to authorize Kimberly A. Cooney of the village  of  Cambridge  to
   take  the  competitive  civil  service examination for the position of
   police officer and be placed on the eligible list for employment as  a
   full-time police officer

   THE  PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM-
 BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:
 
   Section 1. Notwithstanding the provisions of section 58 of  the  civil
 service  law,  including  the  age  requirements  under paragraph (a) of
 subdivision 1 of such section, or any other  provision  of  law  to  the
 contrary,  Kimberly A. Cooney, who has been continuously employed by the
 village of Cambridge, in the county of Washington, as a part-time police
 officer, shall be eligible to take the competitive civil  service  exam-
 ination  for  the  position of police officer and shall, contingent upon
 her score on such examination, be eligible to be placed on the  eligible
 list  for  appointment as a full-time police officer with the Cambridge-
 Greenwich Police Department.
   § 2.  Kimberly A. Cooney shall otherwise be subject to the  merit  and
 fitness  provisions  of  the  civil  service law applicable to full-time
 police officers.
   § 3. This act shall take effect immediately.
