TITLE OF BILL:
An act to amend the general municipal law, in relation to limiting the
naming of municipalities and subdivisions thereof
PURPOSE:
To prohibit municipalities from having a name containing the word swast-
ika and requires municipalities which has a name containing the word
swastika in it to change such name as to remove the word swastika.
SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS:
Section 1: Amends General Municipal Law by adding a new section 99-x,
prohibiting municipalities or any subdivision thereof from having a name
containing the word swastika and requiring municipalities or any subdi-
vision thereof which has a name containing the word swastika shall, by
an act of its governing body, to change such name as to remove the word

AN ACT to amend the general municipal law, in relation to limiting the
naming of municipalities and subdivisions thereof
THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM-
BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. The general municipal law is amended by adding a new
section 99-x to read as follows:
§ 99-X. NAMING OF MUNICIPALITIES; LIMITATIONS. NO MUNICIPAL CORPO-
RATION, OR ANY SUBDIVISION THEREOF, SHALL HAVE A NAME CONTAINING THE
WORD SWASTIKA AND ANY MUNICIPAL CORPORATION, OR ANY SUBDIVISION THEREOF,
WHICH HAS A NAME CONTAINING THE WORD SWASTIKA IN IT SHALL, BY AN ACT OF
ITS GOVERNING BODY, CHANGE SUCH NAME AS TO REMOVE THE WORD SWASTIKA.
§ 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
