BILL NUMBER: S8225 SPONSOR: RATH TITLE OF BILL: An act to amend the public authorities law, in relation to designating a portion of the New York state thruway as the "Western New York Veterans Memorial Highway" PURPOSE:: This bill relates to designating the segment of the New York State Thru- way between Exit 48 (Batavia) and Exit 48A (Pembroke) as the "Western New York Veterans Memorial Highway" SUMMARY OF SPECIFIC PROVISIONS:: Section one of the bill amends the public authorities law by reconsti- tuting subdivision one of section 356-a as paragraph (a) and adding a new paragraph (b) to designate the segment of the thruway between Exit 48 (Batavia) and Exit 4RA (Pembroke) when traveling generally westerly as the "Western New York Veterans Memorial Highway".

RATH -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Transportation AN ACT to amend the public authorities law, in relation to designating a portion of the New York state thruway as the "Western New York Veter- ans Memorial Highway" THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Subdivision 1 of section 356-a of the public authorities law, as added by chapter 741 of the laws of 1957, is amended to read as follows: 1. [The] (A) SUBJECT TO THE PROVISIONS OF PARAGRAPH (B) OF THIS SUBDI- VISION, THE thruway constructed along the routes described in subdivi- sions one, two, three, four and five of section three hundred fifty-six of this article shall be known as "The Iroquois Trail". (B) NOTWITHSTANDING THE PROVISION OF PARAGRAPH (A) OF THIS SUBDIVI- SION, THAT PORTION OF THE THRUWAY CONSTRUCTED BETWEEN EXIT 48 (BATAVIA) IN GENESEE COUNTY AND EXIT 49 (DEPEW - LOCKPORT), IN ERIE COUNTY, SHALL BE DESIGNATED AND KNOWN AS THE "WESTERN NEW YORK VETERANS MEMORIAL HIGH- WAY". § 2. The New York State thruway authority shall provide for the installation and maintenance of adequate signing on the thruway in both directions of the section of the thruway system as designated as the "Western New York Veterans Memorial Highway" pursuant to paragraph (b) of subdivision 1 of section 356-a of the public authorities law as added by section one of this act. However, to avoid confusion and to limit any possible disruption of commerce, the designation called for pursuant to section one of this act shall be one of ceremonial nature and the official name of such section of the thruway system shall not be changed as a result of this act. § 3.
