TITLE OF BILL:
An act to amend the family court act, in relation to increasing the
number of family court judges in Saratoga county
SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS:
Section 1 amends section 131 of the family court act to provide that the
county of Saratoga shall have an additional family court judge.
Section 2 sets forth the effective date.
JUSTIFICATION:
Since the enactment of Chapter 572 of the Laws of 1984, Saratoga County
has been afforded an additional family court judge in order to accommo-
date its population growth. Saratoga County is one of the fastest grow-
ing counties in New York State, and its public administrative and
justice needs are growing with their population. Since the 1980 census,

AN ACT to amend the family court act, in relation to increasing the
number of family court judges in Saratoga county
THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM-
BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. Subdivision (g) of section 131 of the family court act, as
amended by chapter 572 of the laws of 1984, is amended to read as
follows:
(g) There shall be a separate office of judge of the family court for
the counties of Oswego and Sullivan and the compensation payable for
each such separate office of judge of the family court shall be twenty-
five thousand dollars per annum. In the county of Saratoga there shall
be [an] TWO additional family court [judge] JUDGES and the number of
such judges now existing in such county is hereby increased accordingly.
The compensation of such additional family court judge shall be the same
as the compensation of the existing family court judge in such county.
§ 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
