S T A T E O F N E W Y O R K ________________________________________________________________________ 10505 I N A S S E M B L Y May 30, 2022 ___________ Introduced by COMMITTEE ON RULES -- (at request of M. of A. Lavine) -- read once and referred to the Committee on Ways and Means AN ACT to amend the judiciary law and the family court act, in relation to expanding the number of judges in certain judicial districts and the family court THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Section 140-a of the judiciary law, as amended by chapter 188 of the laws of 2021, is amended to read as follows: § 140-a. Number of supreme court justices in each judicial district. The number of justices of the supreme court in each judicial district shall be as follows: 1. First district, thirty-eight; 2. Second district, [fifty] FIFTY-TWO; 3. Third district, [sixteen] SEVENTEEN; 4. Fourth district, [thirteen] FOURTEEN; 5. Fifth district, [eighteen] NINETEEN; 6. Sixth district, eleven; 7. Seventh district, [nineteen] TWENTY; 8. Eighth district, [twenty-seven] TWENTY-EIGHT; 9. Ninth district, [thirty-one] THIRTY-THREE; 10. Tenth district, [fifty] FIFTY-ONE; 11. Eleventh district, [forty-two] FORTY-THREE; 12. Twelfth district, [twenty-eight] TWENTY-NINE; 13. Thirteenth district, [seven] NINE. No person may serve in the office of justice of the supreme court unless he or she has been admitted to practice law in the state of New York for at least ten years as of the date he or she commences the duties of office. § 2. Section 121 of the family court act, as amended by chapter 44 of the laws of 2014, is amended to read as follows: § 121. Number of judges.
