JEAN-PIERRE -- read once and referred to the Committee on Libraries and Education Technology AN ACT to amend the education law, in relation to increasing the percentage of total funds appropriated to a library system that may be used to support projects receiving state aid in excess of seventy-five percent THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Subdivision 4 of section 273-a of the education law, as amended by chapter 381 of the laws of 2019, is amended to read as follows: [4.] 4-A. In approving any application that would receive state aid beyond seventy-five percent of the total project approved costs, the board of trustees of the library system shall give particular attention to addressing the library service needs of economically distressed communities as provided for in paragraph f of subdivision two of this section. [No more than ten] FIFTY percent of the total funds appropri- ated to a library system in subdivision six of this section may be used to support the total costs for projects that would receive state aid beyond seventy-five percent of the total project approved costs. § 2. This act shall take effect immediately, provided, however, that the amendments to subdivision 4 of section 273-a of the education law made by section one of this act shall not affect the expiration of such section and shall be deemed expired therewith.
