BILL NUMBER: S5971 SPONSOR: PARKER TITLE OF BILL: An act to amend the not-for-profit corporation law, in relation to requiring certain not-for-profit corporations have a board of directors which reflects the ethnic demographics of the communities that they serve PURPOSE OR GENERAL IDEA OF BILL: This bill would require non-profits that receive funding from the state to have boards that reflect the ethnic makeup of the communities that they serve. SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS: Section 1: Non-profit shall not accept state funds unless the board of directors consists of directors which reflect the ethnic demographics of the communities that that non-profit serves.

PARKER -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Corporations, Authorities and Commissions AN ACT to amend the not-for-profit corporation law, in relation to requiring certain not-for-profit corporations have a board of direc- tors which reflects the ethnic demographics of the communities that they serve THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Section 701 of the not-for-profit corporation law is amended by adding a new paragraph (c) to read as follows: (C) NO CORPORATION SHALL ACCEPT STATE FUNDS UNLESS THE BOARD OF DIREC- TORS OF SUCH CORPORATION CONSISTS OF DIRECTORS WHICH REFLECT THE ETHNIC DEMOGRAPHICS OF THE COMMUNITIES THAT SUCH CORPORATION SERVES. § 2.
