TITLE OF BILL:

An act to authorize Gina Kehoe of the town of Montgomery to take the
competitive civil service examination for the position of police officer
and be placed on the eligible list for employment as a full-time police
officer for the town of Montgomery police department

 
PURPOSE OR GENERAL IDEA OF BILL:

To provide the town of Montgomery the opportunity to offer Ms. Gina
Kehoe a position with the police department upon her satisfactory
performance on the relevant civil service examination.

 
SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS:

Section 1 of the bill deems Ms.  Gina Kehoe to sit for the competitive
civil service examination for police officer and, contingent on her
score, shall be eligible to be placed on the list.

Section 2 requires the candidate to be subject to all other relevant
provisions of the civil service law regarding police officers.

Section 3 provides the effective date.  Existing Law: Current law limits
candidates to those under the age of 35 years old.

 
JUSTIFICATION:

The supervisor of the town of Montgomery has requested legislation
exempting Gina Kehoe from the age requirement to take the next civil
service police exam (Fall of 2022) for Orange County.  Officer Kehoe has
been a police officer with the town since May 2018, prior to that, a
dispatcher. She has proven to be a very capable officer and would be an
asset in the future if she were able to take the exam and score high
enough to be reachable, pending a future opening.

   printed to be committed to the Committee on Rules
 
 AN ACT to authorize Gina Kehoe of the town of  Montgomery  to  take  the
   competitive civil service examination for the position of police offi-
   cer  and  be placed on the eligible list for employment as a full-time
   police officer for the town of Montgomery police department
 
   THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND  ASSEM-
 BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:
 
   Section  1.  Notwithstanding the provisions of section 58 of the civil
 service law, including the  age  requirements  under  paragraph  (a)  of
 subdivision  1  of  such  section,  or any other provision of law to the
 contrary, Gina Kehoe, employed by the town of Montgomery, in the  county
 of  Orange, as a part-time police officer, shall be eligible to take the
 competitive civil service examination for the position of police officer
 and shall, contingent upon her score on such examination, be eligible to
 be placed on the eligible list for appointment  as  a  full-time  police
 officer for the town of Montgomery police department.
   §  2.  Gina  Kehoe shall otherwise be subject to the merit and fitness
 provisions of the civil service law applicable to full-time police offi-
 cers.
   § 3. This act shall take effect immediately.
