 Introduced  by  Sen. PALUMBO -- read twice and ordered printed, and when
   printed to be committed to the Committee on Rules
 
 AN ACT to amend the judiciary law, in relation to requiring an  individ-
   ual  convicted  on  an  impeachment from reimbursing the state for all
   costs associated with the impeachment investigation and costs  related
   to the individual's defense
 
   THE  PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM-
 BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:
 
   Section 1. The judiciary law is amended by adding a new section  248-a
 to read as follows:
   §  248-A.  REIMBURSEMENT  OF INVESTIGATION AND DEFENSE COSTS. NOTWITH-
 STANDING ANY OTHER PROVISION OF LAW, UPON CONVICTION ON AN  IMPEACHMENT,
 SUCH  CONVICTED  INDIVIDUAL  SHALL  REIMBURSE  THE  STATE  FOR ANY COSTS
 INCURRED BY THE STATE ASSOCIATED WITH THE IMPEACHMENT INVESTIGATION  AND
 COSTS  RELATED TO THE INDIVIDUAL'S DEFENSE, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO
 ATTORNEY'S FEES. THE STATE SHALL NOT REIMBURSE SUCH INDIVIDUAL  FOR  ANY
 COSTS  INCURRED  BY THE INDIVIDUAL FOR REPRESENTATION OR DEFENSE OF SUCH
 INDIVIDUAL IN RELATION TO THE IMPEACHMENT INVESTIGATION OR  PROCEEDINGS,
 INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO ATTORNEY'S FEES.
   § 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
