BILL NUMBER: S7497 SPONSOR: RITCHIE TITLE OF BILL: An act to amend the highway law, in relation to designating a portion of the state highway system as the "Chief Samuel A. Johnson, Sr. Memorial Bridge" PURPOSE: Designates the bridge on state route 180, crossing the Black River from the village of Dexter in the town of Brownsville, Jefferson County, to the town of Hounsfield in Jefferson County, as the "Chief Samuel A. Johnson, Sr. Memorial Bridge." SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS: Section 1: Amends the highway law by adding a new section 344-n, which designates the bridge on state route 180, crossing the Black River from the village of Dexter in the town of Brownsville, Jefferson County, to the town of Hounsfield in Jefferson County, as the "Chief Samuel A.

RITCHIE -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Rules AN ACT to amend the highway law, in relation to designating a portion of the state highway system as the "Chief Samuel A. Johnson, Sr. Memori- al Bridge" THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. The highway law is amended by adding a new section 344-n to read as follows: § 344-N. PORTION OF THE STATE HIGHWAY SYSTEM TO BE DESIGNATED AS THE "CHIEF SAMUEL A. JOHNSON, SR. MEMORIAL BRIDGE". ALL THAT PORTION OF THE STATE HIGHWAY SYSTEM CONSTITUTING THE BRIDGE ON STATE ROUTE ONE HUNDRED EIGHTY, CROSSING THE BLACK RIVER FROM THE VILLAGE OF DEXTER, TOWN OF BROWNVILLE, COUNTY OF JEFFERSON, TO THE TOWN OF HOUNSFIELD, COUNTY OF JEFFERSON, SHALL BE DESIGNATED AND KNOWN AS THE "CHIEF SAMUEL A. JOHN- SON, SR. MEMORIAL BRIDGE". § 2. The commissioner of transportation shall provide for the instal- lation and maintenance of adequate signing of the state highway system as designated pursuant to section one of this act. However, to avoid confusion and to limit any possible disruption of commerce, the desig- nation called for pursuant to section one of this act shall be one of ceremonial nature and the official name of such bridge shall not be changed as a result of this act. § 3.
