BILL NUMBER: S8267 SPONSOR: GAUGHRAN TITLE OF BILL: An act in relation to authorizing the assessor of the town of Hunting- ton, county of Suffolk, to accept from the Huntington Public Library an application for exemption from real property taxes PURPOSE: To allow the Huntington Public Library to file a late exemption from property taxes for property owned by the organization for the 2021-2022 assessment roll. SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS: Section one of this bill authorizes the Town of Huntington, county of Suffolk, to accept from the Huntington Public Library, an application for an exemption of real property taxes for the parcels owned by the library at 1335 New York Avenue for the 2021-2022 assessment rolls. GAUGHRAN -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Local Government AN ACT in relation to authorizing the assessor of the town of Hunting- ton, county of Suffolk, to accept from the Huntington Public Library an application for exemption from real property taxes THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Notwithstanding any other provision of law to the contrary, the assessor of the town of Huntington, county of Suffolk, is hereby authorized to accept from Huntington Public Library, an application for exemption from real property taxes pursuant to section 420-a of the real property tax law, with respect to a portion of the 2021-2022 assessment roll for the parcels owned by such organization, with such parcels being located at 1335 New York Avenue, in the town of Huntington, county of Suffolk, otherwise known as Suffolk county tax map numbers 0400 147.00 01.00 011.000 and 0400 147.00 01.00 009.002. If accepted, the applica- tion shall be reviewed as if it had been received on or before the taxa- ble status date established for such rolls. If satisfied that such organization would otherwise be entitled to such exemption if such organization had filed an application for exemption by the appropriate taxable status date, the assessor, upon approval by the town board of Huntington, may make appropriate correction to the subject rolls. If such exemption is granted and such organization, therefore, shall have paid any tax with respect to the subject rolls, the applicable governing body or tax department may, in its sole discretion, provide for the refund of those taxes paid and cancel those taxes, fines, penalties, liens or interest remaining unpaid. § 2.
