BILL NUMBER: S8330 SPONSOR: WEIK TITLE OF BILL: An act to amend the state law, in relation to portraits of former gover- nors PURPOSE: To provide legislative approval for the portrait of former governors that fail to fulfill their term in office. SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS: Section 1 creates a new section 72-a of the state law to require that no portrait of a former governor may be displayed in the state capitol building if they do not complete their term without approval via a concurrent resolution of the legislature. This section shall not apply if the governor dies while in office. Section 2 sets forth an immediate effective date.

WEIK -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Investigations and Govern- ment Operations AN ACT to amend the state law, in relation to portraits of former gover- nors THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. The state law is amended by adding a new section 72-a to read as follows: § 72-A. PORTRAITS OF GOVERNORS IN THE STATE CAPITOL. NO PORTRAIT OF A FORMER GOVERNOR WHO DOES NOT COMPLETE ANY TERM FOR WHICH THEY WERE ELECTED MAY BE DISPLAYED IN THE STATE CAPITOL BUILDING WITHOUT THE APPROVAL OF THE LEGISLATURE BY THE PASSAGE OF A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION. THIS PROVISION SHALL NOT APPLY TO A GOVERNOR WHO DIES WHILE IN OFFICE. § 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
