BILL NUMBER: S8516 SPONSOR: SAVINO TITLE OF BILL: An act in relation to establishing the fentanyl abuse and overdose prevention task force; and providing for the repeal of such provisions upon expiration thereof PURPOSE OR GENERAL IDEA OF BILL: Establishes the Fentanyl Abuse and Overdose Prevention Task Force. SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS: Section 1. Establishes the fentanyl abuse and overdose prevention task force. Section 2. Provides that the task force will contain sixteen members. Section 3. Describes the duties and powers of the Task Force.

S T A T E O F N E W Y O R K ________________________________________________________________________ 8516 I N S E N A T E March 8, 2022 ___________ Introduced by Sen. SAVINO -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Health AN ACT in relation to establishing the fentanyl abuse and overdose prevention task force; and providing for the repeal of such provisions upon expiration thereof THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. The legislature hereby establishes the fentanyl abuse and overdose prevention task force, referred to hereinafter as the "task force" to conduct a comprehensive study on fentanyl abuse and overdose prevention and to report on the findings and recommendations of the task force. § 2. Such task force shall consist of sixteen members with demon- strated experience in issues relating to the work of the task force. The members of the task force shall be appointed as follows: (a) three members shall be appointed by the governor; (b) two members shall be appointed by the temporary president of the senate; (c) two members shall be appointed by the speaker of the assembly; (d) one member shall be appointed by the minority leader of the assem- bly; (e) one member shall be appointed by the minority leader of the senate; (f) one member shall be the commissioner of health or their designee; (g) one member shall be the commissioner of the office of mental health or their designee; (h) one member shall be the commissioner of the office of addiction services and supports or their designee; (i) one member shall be the president of the district attorney's asso- ciation of the state of New York or their designee; (j) one member shall be the superintendent of the state police or their designee; (k) one member shall be the president of the New York state associ- ation of counties or their designee; and EXPLANATION--Matter in ITALICS (underscored) is new; matter in brackets [ ] is old law to be omitted.
