BILL NUMBER: S9112 SPONSOR: OBERACKER TITLE OF BILL: An act to authorize Donald Kane of the village of Mohawk to take the competitive civil service examination for the position of police officer and be placed on the eligible list for employment as a full-time police officer for the village of Mohawk police department PURPOSE: To provide the Village of Mohawk the opportunity to offer Mr. Donald Kane a position with the police department upon his satisfactory performance on the relevant civil service examination. SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS: Section 1 of the bill deems Mr. Donald Kane to sit for the competitive civil service examination for police officer and, contingent on his score, shall be eligible to be placed on the list. OBERACKER -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Civil Service and Pensions AN ACT to authorize Donald Kane of the village of Mohawk to take the competitive civil service examination for the position of police offi- cer and be placed on the eligible list for employment as a full-time police officer for the village of Mohawk police department THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Notwithstanding the provisions of section 58 of the civil service law, including the age requirements under paragraph (a) of subdivision 1 of such section, or any other provision of law to the contrary, Donald Kane, employed by the village of Mohawk, in the county of Herkimer, as a part-time police officer, shall be eligible to take the competitive civil service examination for the position of police officer and shall, contingent upon his score on such examination, be eligible to be placed on the eligible list for appointment as a full- time police officer with the village of Mohawk police department. § 2. Donald Kane shall otherwise be subject to the merit and fitness provisions of the civil service law applicable to full-time police offi- cers. § 3. This act shall take effect immediately.
