 AN ACT to amend the vehicle and traffic law, in relation to  prohibiting
   the registration of certain stretch limousines
 
   THE  PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM-
 BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:

   Section 1. Section 401 of the vehicle and traffic law  is  amended  by
 adding a new subdivision 24 to read as follows:
   24.  THE  COMMISSIONER  SHALL  NOT  REGISTER ANY ALTERED MOTOR VEHICLE
 COMMONLY REFERRED TO AS A "STRETCH LIMOUSINE" HAVING A SEATING  CAPACITY
 OF  NINE  OR  MORE  PASSENGERS INCLUDING THE DRIVER ENGAGING IN FOR-HIRE
 OPERATION WHEN SUCH ALTERED MOTOR VEHICLE IS TEN OR MORE  YEARS  OF  AGE
 FROM  THE  ORIGINAL  DATE  OF  MANUFACTURE OF THE MOTOR VEHICLE THAT WAS
 ALTERED OR SUCH ALTERED MOTOR  VEHICLE  HAS  ACCUMULATED  THREE  HUNDRED
 FIFTY THOUSAND OR MORE MILES, WHICHEVER OCCURS EARLIER. PROVIDED, HOWEV-
 ER, THAT THE COMMISSIONER MAY REGISTER SUCH ALTERED MOTOR VEHICLE PURSU-
 ANT  TO  SUBDIVISION  SIX  OR  SCHEDULE  G  OF SUBDIVISION SEVEN OF THIS
 SECTION WHERE IT IS DEMONSTRATED TO THE SATISFACTION OF THE COMMISSIONER
 THAT SUCH ALTERED MOTOR VEHICLE WILL BE  OPERATED  SOLELY  FOR  PERSONAL
 USE.
   § 2. This act shall take effect on the one hundred eightieth day after
 it shall have become a law.
