Expands the investigative authority of the attorney general to investigate the alleged commission of sexual misconduct, sexual harassment, sexual abuse or sexual assault with respect to statewide elected officials, members of the legislature, employees of the legislature, state officers and employees, candidates for statewide elected office and candidates for the senate or assembly.

 AN ACT to amend the executive law, in relation to expanding the investi-
   gative authority of the attorney general
 
   THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND  ASSEM-
 BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:

   Section  1. Section 63 of the executive law is amended by adding a new
 subdivision 17 to read as follows:
   17. INVESTIGATE THE ALLEGED COMMISSION OF  SEXUAL  MISCONDUCT,  SEXUAL
 HARASSMENT,  SEXUAL  ABUSE  OR  SEXUAL ASSAULT WITH RESPECT TO STATEWIDE
 ELECTED OFFICIALS, MEMBERS OF THE LEGISLATURE, EMPLOYEES OF THE LEGISLA-
 TURE, STATE OFFICERS AND EMPLOYEES, AS DEFINED IN SECTIONS SEVENTY-THREE
 AND SEVENTY-THREE-A OF THE PUBLIC OFFICERS LAW, CANDIDATES FOR STATEWIDE
 ELECTED OFFICE AND CANDIDATES FOR THE SENATE OR ASSEMBLY, AND TO  PROSE-
 CUTE  THE  PERSON OR PERSONS BELIEVED TO HAVE COMMITTED THE SAME AND ANY
 CRIME OR OFFENSE ARISING OUT OF SUCH  INVESTIGATION  OR  PROSECUTION  OR
 BOTH,  INCLUDING  BUT NOT LIMITED TO APPEARING BEFORE AND PRESENTING ALL
 SUCH MATTERS TO A GRAND JURY.
   § 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
