 AN ACT to amend the public housing law, in relation to playground equip-
   ment installed or maintained by the New York city housing authority
 
   THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND  ASSEM-
 BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:
 
   Section  1.  The public housing law is amended by adding a new section
 402-g to read as follows:
   § 402-G. INSTALLATION AND MAINTENANCE OF PLAYGROUND  EQUIPMENT.    ANY
 PRE-EXISTING  OR NEW PLAYGROUND EQUIPMENT INSTALLED OR MAINTAINED BY THE
 AUTHORITY SHALL SUBSTANTIALLY COMPLY WITH THE  GUIDELINES  AND  CRITERIA
 CONTAINED  IN  THE HANDBOOK FOR PUBLIC PLAYGROUND SAFETY PRODUCED BY THE
 UNITED STATES CONSUMER PRODUCTS SAFETY COMMISSION OR ANY SUCCESSOR THER-
 EOF.
   § 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
