 AN ACT to allow Brian Laurange Jr. to be  eligible  to  take  the  civil
   service exam for the position of police officer for the Columbia Coun-
   ty Sheriff's Office
 
   THE  PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM-
 BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:
 
   Section 1. Notwithstanding the provisions of section 58 of  the  civil
 service  law  or  any  other  provision  of  law  to the contrary, Brian
 Laurange Jr., who has been continuously employed by the county of Colum-
 bia, as a part-time corrections officer, shall be eligible to  take  the
 competitive civil service examination for the position of police officer
 and shall, contingent upon his score on such examination, be eligible to
 be  placed  on  the  eligible list for appointment as a full-time police
 officer for the Columbia County Sheriff's Office.
   § 2. Brian Laurange Jr. shall otherwise be subject to  the  merit  and
 fitness  provisions  of  the  civil  service law applicable to full-time
 police officers.
   § 3. This act shall take effect immediately.

   THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND  ASSEM-
